Santenay is a charming village located at the southern tip of the Côte de Beaune, nestled beneath the Mont de Sène.
This ancient village has been renowned since Roman times, when it was celebrated for its therapeutic hot springs, known as Santinae Aquae—meaning “health-giving waters.”
Joseph Drouhin is one of Burgundy’s leading wine producers, founded in Beaune in 1880. Over the 20th century, the domaine expanded into Chablis, the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, and Côte Chalonnaise, producing everything from village wines to prestigious grand crus, using Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The founder’s son, Maurice, began acquiring vineyards, starting with the famous Clos des Mouches. The domaine grew further in the 1950s and 60s, adding land in Chablis, and in 1988, it expanded internationally with a vineyard in Oregon.
