Dom Pérignon is a renowned Champagne brand owned by Moët & Chandon, with origins at the Abbey of Saint Pierre d'Hautvillers in northern France, often called the birthplace of Champagne.
The 17th-century monk Dom Pierre Pérignon is credited with its creation after becoming the abbey’s cellarer in 1668. He spent 47 years striving to produce the “best wine in the world,” even serving the court of King Louis XIV.
The abbey still holds a manuscript on Champagne viticulture written by his pupil and successor.
The Dom Pérignon name was registered by Eugène Mercier and later sold to Moët & Chandon, who launched it as a prestige cuvée in 1937.
Each vintage is unique, using top vineyard grapes, with a tradition of allowing slow ripening before harvest.
